Trivets and puzzle boxes

I made these trivets also and they could go into the mistake part but since they are trivets and are covered, i moved them here. They are mistake riddled though. I did not have a block guage to  get the spacing right. The glue is slippery and would moves under clamps sometimes if you are not careful or get in a rush, which I did. Oh well, Fun to make anyway and something will sit on them

The boxes below are neat and fun. I saw them somewhere on the internet and thought I could make those and had some 1x material to practice with that I had planed down. I actually made a set of three.

Very simple to build.

And it looks like a cube. Make one and have fun with it. I have since stained them brown. I will put a polyurethane on them later, maybe.

...and a sort of mistake

Below is a crate that I wanted to build. Well, it became a crate. I wanted to build 2 crates, but I only cut enough slats for 2 sides and figured no bottom slats. I made this contraption just because and I can improve on it late, mainly by adding a real bottom.

Little mistakes

Here are a couple of mistake boxes. They don't look too bad until you examine them closer then the mistake is all you can see, at least in my opinion.

Looks good, until-

big gaping hole at a corner. At least I will find a use for it somewhere in the house.

Another, that looks ok. It is a nice looking box over all, but...

the bottom is uneven and I mean not even close and...

It has air gaps. At least it won't hold water. Sometimes I rush and don't do a great job or do bad math. I like most of my little projects. They are fun to do and there are minor errors in some of them; I don't mind the small ones. The bigger ones stand out as a child's project and I think the smaller ones prove it is homemade.

And more boxes

I love making these little boxes. I like the ones with lids probably the most but I like the shallow ones also. These are just various stages of them. More are of the finished product. I placed it on some duck canvas that I use for the stretchers.

These are more stretchers that I have made. Going to visit mom in a week or two. She is getting her cutting board that was promised for her birthday, late. I will be bringing some of these canvases for her to paint on and it seems that she intends for me to paint also.

I bought gesso to treat the canvas. Little did I know there is at least one other color gesso, black.  And guess which one I bought.  You guessed it. I bought black. I thought it only came in white. I did some research and found some people like it and mom said she would love to try it. The pics are of them at various stages of gesso.
The ones in pics are done now, but I still have 5 more to have gesso put on and they are larger canvases. I also made some very small frames, which I will show later.

The last pic is just white gesso on canvas. The black ones were already completed by this point.
