Crates

I have also been making crates. I think they are fun and easy to make.

On these two I had some 1x12 pine scrap sitting around and had stripped some 2x4's after planing in the idea of making these. I should find a better place to take pics than in the garage on top of hte washer and dryer.

Yes, there are no cut outs for the handles. They are not that bulky and should not hold anything that heavy. I will enjoy them or someone will.

more cutting boards

I found a pattern for zigzag cutting boards and you see one here with the others.

And some more boards...

I have given a few of my earlier cheese boards away, all to work people, Malcolm, Kathleen and Rusty.

I would prefer selling them but it is nice to give things you made away.

For Sale

I took the items as mentioned in previous post to be sold and none sold yet. I didn't think so in a days time but she did a nice display of them as soon as you walk in. I went in to take a picture of the business card holders
They were not on display yet, but that was my purpose of going there.

When I got there to take the picure I saw how nice everything else looked and took these pics.

Some things are in a shop to be sold

At least I hope so. I took some of my woodworking to Simply Vintage near where I live and have some of my items there on consignment. The lady that owned it was nice and professional. I am just trying to get my feet wet in it. I have no complaints about the split because I do not have to sell it. I imagine many people think that they can make so much more if they sell it themselves. Yes, that would be true if you don't value your time. I am keeping my fingers crossed that most sell. It would be most satisfying.

Some of the items to be sold. In the last picture only the 3 items to the far left are for sale.

There are also some other business card holders that I made for sale there that I forgot to take a picture of. I must go by there and take that picture.

Assorted business card holders for desk

These are just an assortment of business card holders that I have made. Pics are not the best but I enjoy making them and the challenge of some of them. I am not posting the big failures yet.

I gave Cassandra one of thecard holders at work. On th ethirsd pic it is the far right one and on the bottom pic it is the bottom left one.

and little yard signs - painted

I initially made these plain yard signs for mom to paint and sell as she wanted. She had less success than I had hoped. I made more stretched canvas things for her to paint on and she gave me some acrylics to paint on my own canvases. More on this later on. Anyway, on my last drive up there she gave me the ones that were not painted and  the craft paint she had bought for the signs. I, of course, went overboard and bought more. Here are the results.

Trivets finished

I was busy with many projects and here are the four trivets. 2 are clearly better than the other 2.

Trivets and puzzle boxes

I made these trivets also and they could go into the mistake part but since they are trivets and are covered, i moved them here. They are mistake riddled though. I did not have a block guage to  get the spacing right. The glue is slippery and would moves under clamps sometimes if you are not careful or get in a rush, which I did. Oh well, Fun to make anyway and something will sit on them

The boxes below are neat and fun. I saw them somewhere on the internet and thought I could make those and had some 1x material to practice with that I had planed down. I actually made a set of three.

Very simple to build.

And it looks like a cube. Make one and have fun with it. I have since stained them brown. I will put a polyurethane on them later, maybe.

...and a sort of mistake

Below is a crate that I wanted to build. Well, it became a crate. I wanted to build 2 crates, but I only cut enough slats for 2 sides and figured no bottom slats. I made this contraption just because and I can improve on it late, mainly by adding a real bottom.

Little mistakes

Here are a couple of mistake boxes. They don't look too bad until you examine them closer then the mistake is all you can see, at least in my opinion.

Looks good, until-

big gaping hole at a corner. At least I will find a use for it somewhere in the house.

Another, that looks ok. It is a nice looking box over all, but...

the bottom is uneven and I mean not even close and...

It has air gaps. At least it won't hold water. Sometimes I rush and don't do a great job or do bad math. I like most of my little projects. They are fun to do and there are minor errors in some of them; I don't mind the small ones. The bigger ones stand out as a child's project and I think the smaller ones prove it is homemade.

And more boxes

I love making these little boxes. I like the ones with lids probably the most but I like the shallow ones also. These are just various stages of them. More are of the finished product. I placed it on some duck canvas that I use for the stretchers.

These are more stretchers that I have made. Going to visit mom in a week or two. She is getting her cutting board that was promised for her birthday, late. I will be bringing some of these canvases for her to paint on and it seems that she intends for me to paint also.

I bought gesso to treat the canvas. Little did I know there is at least one other color gesso, black.  And guess which one I bought.  You guessed it. I bought black. I thought it only came in white. I did some research and found some people like it and mom said she would love to try it. The pics are of them at various stages of gesso.
The ones in pics are done now, but I still have 5 more to have gesso put on and they are larger canvases. I also made some very small frames, which I will show later.

The last pic is just white gesso on canvas. The black ones were already completed by this point.

A continuation on the boards -

The boards are done. The long one is a bread board and that is a present for Mom since her birthday is coming up very shortly. She knows about it already. No need to keep it a secret. The surprise out.

Next is down to a set of 2 cheese boards. I already gave one away.

And  finally 2 cutting boards. I am unsure what to do with them right now. I will figure it out.

Boards

I really enjoy making the different boards. It is a fun hobby when I do it

After I have cut the strips of wood I glue them and clamp them tight. This is a bread board I will be giving to someone. You can see the clamps and thank goodness I cropped picture or you would see much more of my leg.

This one was a long board that I cut smaller and I consider these to be little cheese plate/trays. Put a big hunk of cheese or a cheese ball in the middle with a knife and a few crackers and dig in for a little social gathering.

This is what the bread board looks like after trimming and some sanding.

These are two cutting boards made at the same time.

I will have more pics after they are completed. I am also making some coasters, but I am not far enough along to decide if I think they are good yet or not.

More business card holders

I like making these little things. I did not put any tung oil on these. I also tried something different and decided I did not like it. I have been making them almost like a mirror then cutting middle so I have a nice hole for the thumb. I tried with the scroll saw and you can see it, the thumb hole,  is not quite right on one of them. Granted I have a cheap scroll saw and it is a bit older, I still have never been that happy with it. I should probably sell it cheap and get an better one.

But I won't do that. If I buy a new one then I can sell the old one.

The one that is not perfect, I am keeping until I give it away to a family member. I gave the other away already to the store manager. Hopefully he likes it.

Yet another shelf

Made this also. It did not take long to make. The nice thing about making this was I got a thickness planer at Christmas time along with a new mitre saw. I put both to work making it.

First pic is after built and second is after staining. The white pine was already floating around and just needed to be cut, planed, sanded and assembled.
